High
School Student Athletes
College Sports:
Many high school student athletes have aspirations
of playing their sport on the collegiate level. Well
over 1,000 colleges and universities have varsity
sports programs that can be matched with academic
offerings and campus environment to find the right
college for each interested student athlete.
Scholarship vs Grant:
Opportunities for a four-year
full-ride athletic scholarship are rare. At ADI we
help athletes to develop realistic goals taking into
account their athletic and academic abilities. Our
stress on the complete student athlete allows us
to focus on finding the right academic and athletic
fit for each individual. Athletic achievement can
help an athlete get into a school that may not have
otherwise considered them. There is also the possibility
of a reduction in the cost of tuition for our athletes
who can offer a stellar academic and athletic resume.
Credit System:
We organize our programming on the
credit system so that we can reward athletes who
have participated in our sessions. Once athletes
reach 100 credits they will receive a Certificate
of Achievement that recognizes the work they have
done to prepare for collegiate athletics. The Certificate
of Achievement helps to round out the student athlete
profile for college coaches and administrators.
Planning:
Navigating the complex and confusing process
of finding the right school to match the abilities,
capabilities, interest and passion of each individual
student athlete requires detailed planning and the active participation by
the student to identify personal interests and desires.
It is essential to access trusted information on
colleges and athletic departments to guide the student
athlete and parents through the college selection
process.
Outreach:
ADI can help athletes and parents organize
a student athlete profile along with other support
material that can be sent to perspective coaches
at the schools the athlete is interested in attending.
The next step is direct contact with the coaches
and admissions counselors. Active participation of
the athlete in voicing their concerns and needs from
a university is essential. It is also important for
the student athlete to officially visit as many different
campuses as is permissible.
Final Decision:
At the conclusion of the process,
the student athlete (along with input from parents
and advisors) will be prepared to make the final
decision on the best fit college or university for
them considering academic offering, sports team participation
and commitment, as well as the social setting where
they feel most comfortable.
